Executive Director
The Executive Director sets the vision and pace for Smiling Surgeons—guiding strategy, programs, and partnerships that make safe, high-quality surgery accessible in Malawi. They coordinate with clinical leads and local institutions to target the highest-impact gaps, ensure patient safeguards, and embed training into every clinic. With a focus on measurable outcomes, the ED stewards grants, nurtures donor relationships, and keeps our team accountable to equity, cultural humility, and data-driven improvement. From pre-mission logistics and supply readiness to post-mission follow-up and reporting, the ED translates resources into results patients can feel.
Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
The CFO is responsible for financial stewardship across Smiling Surgeons—budgeting, cash flow, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance. They turn plans into practical budgets, track mission costs in real time, and produce clear donor/grant reports that show outcomes per dollar. By standardizing procurement, inventory valuation, and travel policies, the CFO ensures supplies get where they’re needed, on time and within budget. Their work enables predictable funding for scholarships, training, equipment, and patient follow-up—building trust with supporters and stability for partners on the ground.
Dr. Mchenga
Dr. Mchenga is a leading oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Malawi and a cornerstone of our collaborative model. He co-designs patient triage, operative planning, and peri-operative protocols with our visiting teams, ensuring care is safe, ethical, and tailored to local realities. Beyond the theatre, he mentors trainees, advances clinic workflows, and helps align equipment and supply choices with long-term maintenance on site. His leadership strengthens referral networks and post-operative follow-up, so patients receive continuity of care after missions conclude. Through this partnership, we combine hands-on treatment with skills transfer—building capacity that remains in Malawi, for Malawi.
